Mission:

To address the strategic interventions in policy, regulatory and operational capacity building that affect the delivery of Internet Services in Africa and further afford operational support to service providers through business and funding opportunities, human resource development, information propagation, internet awareness and usage.

Vision:

That the Internet in the African continent is equitably diffused through the development of strong services industry supported by information policy and regulatory environments and further providing international and local stakeholders with a single interface to the African Internet industry

Core Values:

AfrISPA will be guided by integrity, creativity, sustainability and commitment to the availability of free and open Internet services industry.

Objectives:

AfrISPA has the following set of strategic objectives:-

  • To broaden its constituency in view of convergence in the licensing regimes across Africa.

  • Provide support for setting up of more ISPAs and IXPs in a more innovative way

  • Provide industry perspective on policy formulation and regulation as it relates to the Internet industry and to act as an interface between government bodies and the wider public

  • Strengthen Research and Development in AfrISPA so as to build, maintain and publish relevant industry data for members

  • Develop policies and positions in the best interest of the members and protect and promote those interests in regional and international fora.

  • Promote the development of key internet infrastructure on the continent

  • Promote the development of a free and open internet services market

  • Facilitate establishment of national ISPAs in Africa and to provide common services to them.

  • Provide and promote educational opportunities that will enhance and empower technical and policy understanding of the Internet

  • Enhance the acceptance of African Internet as an investment destination.

Goals:

  1. An ISP Association in every African country within the next five years.

  2. At least one Internet eXchange Point in every African country which has more than three Internet Service Providers within the next five years.

  3. A fully liberalized and open telecoms sector in every African country.

  4. A single and credible reference point for input and feedback on Internet related policy and regulation to African governments and regulators.

  5. To establish best practice and standards for the operation of Internet Service Provider networks especially in areas of global concern such as spurious/spam mail, child pornography and cyber-crime among others.

  6. 60 regulatory, policy and technical training sessions for technical and non-technical stakeholders on the continent over the next five years in conjunction with allied organizations like AfNOG, AfriNIC, AfriDNS, AfrICANN, AfTLD.

  7. Establish AfrISPA Academy and develop accredited programmes that address key issues of the internet. Through the Academy develop certification framework in partnership with academic institution e.g. AfREN
